Leaf-Peeping Hikes

Borestone Mountain

Head up to Maine for one of our favorite New England fall hikes this season. Borestone Mountain in Elliotsville is a 5.2-mile trail that features two peaks with 360-degree views for your daily dose of ideal foliage. This mountain sanctuary is located near the southern end of the 100-Mile Wilderness forest—needless to say, you won’t be disappointed in the mosaic of colors here.

Percy Peaks

Percy Peaks in Stratford New Hampshire is another great place to see some quintessential New England fall foliage. With moderate and advanced trails, this hike is the perfect challenge for hiking enthusiasts this fall. Plus, we have a feeling you’ll thank us later for recommending a trail that’s “off the beaten path” of the White Mountains.

Celebrate the Season

Acadia’s Oktoberfest

File festivals under favorite fall activities in New England. Acadia’s annual Oktoberfest features beer, food, wine, music, and crafts with a classic Maine twist. Think Beerless Pong Tournaments and Stein Hoisting Contests that’ll test your strength and your willpower.

Deerfield Fair

Looking for family-friendly fun that includes puppet shows, live music, rides, fried food, and 4-H prizes for baked goods, livestock, crafts, and more? New Hampshire’s Deerfield Fair has it all. Happening from September 28 to October 1, this annual festival has something for everyone.

Pick Your Own Apples

Gould Hill Farm

When it comes to views and varieties, this New England apple orchard and farm tops the list. Gould Hill Farm grows over 80 varieties of apples—most of which you can pick yourself during the autumn months. This orchard also has an unmatched 75-mile view (perfect for leaf peeping!), live music, a pumpkin patch, a farm store with cider donuts, and more. It also has a separate Contoocook Cider tasting room so you can sip on some New England apple cider to finish out your festive day.

Champlain Orchards

As a family-owned farm that overlooks Lake Champlain, these orchards in Shoreham, Vermont feature over 100 varieties of apples and use Integrated Pest Management techniques that minimize the use of pesticides, making it an ideal place to pick your own apples. They also sell a variety of other produce in their farm’s market, as well as their homemade apple cider that balances the perfect amount of tartness with a sweet finish.
