Get Outdoors
In the summer months, there’s no better place to start than the beach. You’ve probably heard of York Harbor Beach, a scenic and sandy beach tucked away off York Street. Perfect for families, this public beach has gentle surf, a scenic cliff walk path, and neighboring Hartley Mason Reserve, which overlooks York Harbor Beach and boasts sprawling sea views.
If you’re looking to add some additional movement to your day, Mount Agamenticus is a popular hiking destination with a variety of trails and special events during the warmer months. In York, it couldn’t be easier to spend the day exploring the great outdoors.
Dine Like a Local
No trip to Maine is complete without seafood. Union Bluff is one of our favorites as it has a creative seasonal menu and only serves the freshest catch. Or, visit The Ship’s Cellar Pub. Located in the lower level of the York Harbor Inn, this pub takes the seafood dining experience up a notch as their multi-room tavern seems to be found below deck of a posh Newport sailing vessel. Order the crab cakes, steamed Maine lobster, or pan seared scallops and enjoy the unique ambiance. For dessert, stop by The Goldenrod, an iconic gourmet candy and salt water taffy shop that serves up homemade ice cream, fudge, taffy, and more.
Embrace Culture and History
Because York is one of the earliest English settlements in the country, it feels almost necessary to visit the Old York Historical Society. A variety of walking tours allow you to explore the burying ground, learn about the area’s history, experience York Village, and more.
On a different note but perhaps equally as well-known, Ledges Golf Club is rated one of the best in New England and is the perfect place to improve your game while experiencing ledge outcroppings, championship greens, and active wildlife. Don’t wait to snag a tee time.
Round out your trip in the neighborhood of Cape Neddick with a visit to Sohier Park. Here you’ll find Nubble Light, one of the most photographed lighthouses in all of the United States. When you arrive, you’ll see why. Originally opened on July 1, 1879, this majestic lighthouse offers more than just stunning views of the sea. For the perfect day, bring a picnic lunch and a lawn chair.
